Children of love MREs the camping

Posted by Filed Under Camping Heater with No Comments

I am a stay at the home mother of two, a 8 year old boy and a 6-year-old girl. Both my kids are quite adventurous, but like most of the children they can be a bit picky when it comes to food.

On a recent camping adventure, we took together ready to eat a supply of MREs or meals. This all-in one kits with main course, side dish, snack, dessert are military rations and activated water heater.

I wasn’t sure what would think the children. Finally, the MREs are packaged in Tan bags, with no fun cartoon characters on the sides and little taste.

They are ideal for camping, hunting, and for the density pantry in your emergency food aid, but would be probably difficult to eat every day for a long time. When she was only main course food, which we were brought on the trip, worried the children I would not like it.

We set up our tent, set up a beautiful Campfire and prepared for the meal. I prayed for the best while trying I remember where the next restaurant on the way into the camp, saw, if I was met with great opposition.

But I was wrong in fact! If their own spaghetti pass MRE, both children thought was the experience of an explosion.

They had open fun all nondescript packages, play with the chemical activated water heater (with the help of MOM, of course), and swallowed up the snack items. It was their favorite part of the entire trip.

The rest of the night and in the next day, they both had lots of fun to pretend they were in the army, and that their MREs were special rations on a secret mission. Insert sheets into their shirts camouflage and sticks as weapons used. It was nice to see that the creative side in them the journey and the MREs released. Today found a hard thing.

I’m not sure if she would enjoy the MREs almost as much at home, or as soon as the novelty wore, but for now, they ask for more. We keep in our group a few MREs for emergency and the children have seen them there. She have requested to have a picnic with them.

I am glad that you like them. I have only a few cases ordered pantry, for our hurricane, as storm season is fast approaching. Their size and completeness make it the ideal food, that have on hand when the big a hit.

How do I make pine cones for pretty camping fire flames?

Posted by Filed Under Camping Heater with 1 Comment

I know I can buy these commercially, but would like to make some myself to give to camping friends. Most campgrounds have a fire ring where the camper can build a fire to roast weiners and marshmallows. These commercial pine cones add colors to the flames, like green and blue. How do I make them myself?

What can I use as a base for a campfire?

Posted by Filed Under Camping Heater with 4 Comments

I’m going camping and need something that I can build the campfire in. In my head, I’m imagining a big metal bowl… almost like a wheelbarrow basket, but a little smaller. I’m sure there are things out there that can be used for this purpose, but I’m at a loss! Any ideas would be appreciated.
Bert-

Thanks for the idea, however the campground requires that the fire actually be in something…. against the rules to build it on/in the bare ground. Any other ideas?
