How can I tell the size of my Hot water heater in my camper?
I need to know if it is 6 or 10 gallon.
I can not look in the owners manual for the camper, I am the 4th or 5th owner and the manual is long gone.
I tried looking in the heater for the size, but all the info is ether burned from the hot metal, or faded in time. My camper is over 30 years old and the water heater needs to be replaced.
NOTE… scraping it is not an option. It is not a vacation camper, it is my home.

If it’s like most of them i have seen you cannot measure it as it is installed.
I would look at the model# or if it’s not there remove the unit and measure the space you have and install the 10 gallon if space permits.
You need to call a place where they sell this type of camper and ask them. They should know. Tell them how long it is and how old it is. I hope this will be of some help to you.
Measure the dimensions and convert to cu.ft.to gal.s(about 7.48 gal per cu.ft).
Easy. Measure the height of the existing tank and the diameter, call the rv supply and give those measurements to them, and ask them what will fit in its place ! Problem solved
When all else fails set down and read the labels on the tank.
compare it to a 5 gallon bucket, if it is only an inch or two taller and wider, then it is a 6 gallon.
Measure the height, width, diameter, and draw a sketch showing where the pipes, hot and cold, go into and out of the heater.
Take you sketch and measuring tape to Home Depot and find another heater with approximately the same dimensions.
Look at the specifications of the new heater and it will tell you how many gallons it will hold.
