Going camping with 2 dogs?

May 17, 2010 Camping Heater

I have 2 dogs, a pomeranian, and a beagle. The beagle has never gone camping, but the pomeranian has. They both sleep in cages at night. Both of their cages will not fit inside our camper. They will stay on chains/leashes while we are there(required by law) except when they are in their cages. They will stay in their cages at night, meaning it will get around 45 degrees at night. They do not stay outside while at home. Would it be ok if they stay outside, with their cages under an awning, a heater beside their crates, and then a blanket covering the crates? What are your suggestions? Do you have any other suggestions also while we are camping? Thanks! :)

Be careful putting a heater near crates with blankets on, you don’t want to start a fire.
Dogs are good with the cold they should be fine. Just put some bedding in the crates

It would be ok. I would just worry about them being stolen. Maybe you can have one in the camper with you and one in your car with the windows cracked?

I really think they need to be inside the camper with you.

Really the beagle will be fine in the crate outside, they are a hearty hunting breed of dog but the pom will need to be inside. I would suggest either putting a lock on his crate or putting him in a locked vehicle though because people are crazy enough to try and steal him if he looks like a good dog. And please dont put a heater next to him, thats dangerous for one, he wont need it for another, if you think he would be more comfy with a blanket over the crate to shield him from the noise in the camp ground thats ok. Other than that don’t worry about him being outside, relax and have a great camping trip!
