It could be a little tough to enjoy the great outdoors when your fingers gets cold and your toes become numb when camping.  The best way to make sure that you are all warm and heated when camping is by bringing along a camping heater that makes up for the chills in your tent on a cool night outdoors. This will make getting out of your sleeping bag on a cold morning day a lot easier. But one must make sure that it is used properly to avoid a fire accident. There had been some reported cases of camping fires because of camping heaters, so it is best to take all necessary precautions.

The purpose of a camping heater is to provide you with sufficient heat and warmth during camping trips – especially if you are camping on a location with low temperature. Instead of using camp fires, you can use camping heaters which are a safer alternative and one that is easy to carry. Because of the advances in technology, many manufacturers nowadays have created more portable, lightweight and reliable camp heaters that most campers would love to have.

One important feature that you should check when choosing a camping heater is the built in safety mechanism. There are some models of camping heaters that have the added feature of an automatic shut off. This will be triggered once the oxygen level inside your camping tent drops. Not all portable camp heaters have this feature but most new models do.  Reading the operation manual is also a must especially on the safety instruction part of the manual because it’s always better to know how to be safe at all times rather than end up being sorry.

Posted by Filed Under Camping Heater, Featured with No Comments

Buying a camping heater often means choosing between the different varieties of camping heaters. The most common question that one would ask is which type is safer or which one is the best? To be able to answer such questions, knowing the pros and cons of the two leading types of camp heaters could help. Propane camping heaters or electric camping heaters, which one is better? Let’s take a quick look at each one.

A propane camping heater usually has a battery operated fan so that you can choose to direct the heat where you need to.  For easy start up, most units come with an electronic ignition. It’s safer to use a propane heater that does not produce a flame than the flame-type heater. When using one, campers are required to have adequate ventilation as it consumes oxygen to create heat. A can of propane will usually last between 12-16 hours depending on the unit that you are using.  So if you plan on camping for days, make sure to pack extra cans of propane.

Electric camp heater is designed for indoor use.  You would not really expect to have electricity in the great outdoors so this unit is not really recommended to bring on camping trips that does not have electricity. It is also the most efficient. Among all the type of camp heaters, this is the safest but often also the most expensive compared to other types of heaters. Most units come with warranties, so be sure to check on it.
